The Use of Bubble CPAP in Premature Infants: Local Experience

چکیده
Received February 15, 2007 Abstract Bubble continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) was introduced more than 30 years ago for infants with respiratory distress. With this, there had been reports of decreased incidence of mechanical ventilation and chronic lung disease among the premature, as well as less failure of extubation. This report described how this treatment modality was adopted locally and showed it might be associated with less apnoea among very low birth weight (VLBW) and extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants post extubation with improved non-pulmonary outcomes.

Effect of Bubble and Ventilator-derived Continuous Positive Airway Pressure on the Management of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Premature Neonates
Background: In this study, we aimed to compare ventilator-derived and bubble continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in neonates with respiratory distress syndrome admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Vali-e-Asr Hospital, Birjand, Iran, in 2014. Methods: This cohort study was conducted among 68 patients assigned into two groups. The neonates in group A (32 infants) were treated with b...
متن کاملComparison of the Therapeutic Effects of Bubble CPAP and Ventilator CPAP on Respiratory Distress Syndrome in Premature Neonates
Background: Respiratory distress syndrome is one of the main complications associated with low birth weight, and a main cause of mortality in premature neonates. The present study aimed to compare the efficacy of ventilator continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and bubble CPAP in the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature neonates. Methods: This randomized controlled...
متن کاملAnalysis of Respiratory Behavior and Clinical Parameters for Successful Extubation in Premature Infants
Background The weaning process is complex and needs to be done carefully. The success of extubation in premature babies is associated with brain maturity and adequate function of the lungs. We aimed to identify the ventilator parameters and clinical conditions related to extubation success and failure in premature infants. Materials and Methods This is anobservational study, analytical and non-...
متن کاملShort term evaluation of respiratory effort by premature infants supported with bubble nasal continuous airway pressure using Seattle-PAP and a standard bubble device
BACKGROUND Almost one million prematurely born infants die annually from respiratory insufficiency, predominantly in countries with limited access to respiratory support for neonates. The primary hypothesis tested in the present study was that a modified device for bubble nasal continuous positive airway pressure (Bn-CPAP) would provide lower work of spontaneous breathing, estimated by esophage...
متن کاملVolume Oscillations Delivered to a Lung Model Using 4 Different Bubble CPAP Systems.
BACKGROUND High-frequency pressure oscillations created by gas bubbling through an underwater seal during bubble CPAP may enhance ventilation and aid in lung recruitment in premature infants. We hypothesized that there are no differences in the magnitude of oscillations in lung volume (ΔV) in a preterm neonatal lung model when different bubble CPAP systems are used. METHODS An anatomically re...
